UNO is shaking up game night again. The classic card game has launched a bold new edition called Liar’s UNO – introducing bluffing, hidden cards, and a few rule changes that promise to turn friendly matches into full-on deception battles.
UNO Launches “Liar’s UNO” – A Bold New Twist Adds Bluffing and Hidden Cards
The world-famous UNO card game has just added a whole new layer of chaos. Mattel’s new release, Liar’s UNO, swaps the familiar open-hand gameplay for a hidden-card format where players can lie about what they play – but risk big penalties if caught.
Unlike classic UNO, where every move is visible, players in Liar’s UNO place their cards face down and announce the color or number they claim to be playing. The next player can either accept it or challenge the truth. If the bluff is exposed, the liar must draw four cards; if the accusation is wrong, the challenger pays the price instead.
A Fresh Spin on a Classic Formula
This version borrows inspiration from bluffing games like Cheat (also known as BS), creating a more unpredictable and interactive dynamic. It also keeps the fast, family-friendly pace that made UNO famous, while rewarding risk-taking and reading opponents’ tells.
In addition to the bluffing mechanic, Liar’s UNO features updated symbols and accessibility improvements for color-blind players – part of Mattel’s broader push to modernize its tabletop lineup and make games easier to read for everyone.
Available Now in Select Markets
Liar’s UNO is already hitting store shelves in Australia through Big W and is expected to roll out globally later in 2025. Mattel hasn’t yet confirmed an international date, but the early buzz suggests this could become the next must-have twist in casual card gaming.
