What is Teen Patti?
Teen Patti is a gambling card game played with a standard 52-card deck and typically 3–7 players, although more can join if desired. Every player receives three cards and competes to win the pot by either holding the strongest hand or convincing everyone else to fold.
The game is especially popular during the Hindu festival Diwali, but it is now played worldwide both in casinos and online.

Teen Patti setup
Before the cards are dealt, all players contribute an agreed ante to the pot.
Once everyone has paid:

Knowing the hand rankings is essential because every showdown is decided using this order.

Trio
Three cards of the same rank.
Three Aces are the highest possible hand, while three Twos are the lowest trio.
Straight Flush
Three consecutive cards of the same suit.
The highest straight flush is A-2-3, followed by A-K-Q, then K-Q-J, and so on.
Straight
Three consecutive cards of mixed suits.
The ranking follows the same order as a straight flush.
Flush
Three cards of the same suit that are not consecutive.
If two players both have a flush, compare the highest card first, then the second, then the third.
Pair
Two cards of the same rank.
If players share the same pair, the remaining card determines the winner.
High Card
If no other hand is formed, compare the highest card, then the second, then the third.
How to play Teen Patti
Every player receives three face-down cards before betting begins.
On your turn, you always have one of two basic options:
- Continue betting.
- Fold and leave the round.
Players continue clockwise until only one player remains or a showdown occurs.
Playing blind
Blind players do not look at their cards.
Because they're taking a greater risk, they can bet less than players who have already seen their cards.
A blind player may later choose to look at their cards and become a seen player.
Playing seen
Seen players know exactly what cards they hold.
Because of this advantage, they must place larger bets than blind players to remain in the hand.
Once you've looked at your cards, you remain a seen player for the rest of the round.
Betting rules
Teen Patti uses a betting system that differs from traditional poker.

Each new bet updates the current stake for the next player.
Because blind and seen players have different betting limits, the size of the pot can change quickly as the round progresses.
Showdown (Show)
Eventually only two players remain.
At this point, one player may request a Show, depending on whether the remaining players are blind or seen.
During a Show:
- Both players reveal their cards.
- The stronger hand wins the entire pot.
- If both hands are identical, the player who did not request the Show wins.
If everyone else folds before a Show takes place, the last remaining player automatically wins the pot without revealing their cards.
Popular Teen Patti variations
While the classic rules are the most common, many groups use additional house rules.
Some popular variations include:
- Allowing larger betting raises.
- Limiting how many rounds a player may remain blind.
- Increasing the cost required to request a Show.
- Playing themed versions with jokers or wild cards.

Although luck plays a significant role, smart decisions can improve your long-term results.
