Braided Skies announced, with Stonemaier orders opening October 14
24th September 2026, 11:24 CEST
Stonemaier Games has revealed Braided Skies, a competitive board game about running an airship travel company, with direct orders opening on October 14, 2026. The September 23 announcement gives players a first look at Dan Germain’s design and a release plan that separates the publisher’s launch from wider retail availability.

A travel company above the clouds
Braided Skies is set in Smoking Bones, the world created and illustrated by Andrew Bosley, whose artwork also appears in Everdell and Tapestry. Players transport tourists, gather magical gems called tapstones and develop their companies while competing for fame.
According to Stonemaier’s game page, it supports one to five players and takes around 60–90 minutes. The publisher classifies it as a heavy game. Although it begins a series in the same setting, this is a standalone experience played in a single session; players are not signing up for a continuing campaign.
Deploy ships, then bring them home
Each player has three ships. As described in Tabletop Sentinel’s September 23 report, turns revolve around sending a ship to a port or recalling the ships already deployed. Ports provide resources, tourists and opportunities to improve the company, while some spaces can accommodate only one ship.
Returning ships activates outfittings on the corresponding rows of the player’s company mat. Resources gathered on the map therefore feed back into the company’s developing abilities. Ship upgrades also let players uncover cloud tiles, opening up more of the board as the game progresses.
That combination gives prospective players something concrete to investigate beyond the airship theme: competition for destinations, exploration and the timing of recall turns. These are announced mechanisms, rather than a verdict on how smoothly they work in play. Stonemaier has made the rulebooks available for anyone who wants a closer look before ordering.
October launch, followed by retail
In its September 23 reveal, Stonemaier says orders will open on October 14 and copies will be available at SPIEL Essen. Webstore orders are expected to ship afterwards through fulfilment centres in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia.
October 14 should therefore be treated as the opening of direct sales, rather than a promise that every buyer will receive a copy that day. Wider retail follows later, with the publisher pointing to November availability. Its product page distinguishes local shops from a subsequent online retail release, currently expected in late November.
For groups considering the game, the immediate option is to read the rules and register for the publisher’s launch notification. Regional stock and translated editions should be checked with the relevant seller or localisation partner as release approaches.
