What is Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza?

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is a real-time card game where players take turns placing cards into a central pile while saying five words in the same repeating order:

Taco → Cat → Goat → Cheese → Pizza

Whenever the spoken word matches the card that has just been played, everyone races to slap the pile.

The slowest player collects all the cards, making it much harder to win.

Game information Details
Players 2–8
Playing time About 10 minutes
Recommended age 8+
Game type Party card game
Objective Get rid of all your cards first

Game components

The game contains:

  • 64 cards
  • Several standard word cards
  • Special action cards
  • Flip Side cards (in the Taco Back Goat Cheese Pizza version)

Setup

Shuffle the deck and deal cards face down.

The number of cards depends on the player count:

Players Cards each
2–5 12
6 10
7–8 8

Any remaining cards are returned to the box.

Players place their own pile face down in front of themselves without looking at their cards.

How to play Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza

The dealer starts the first round.

Players take turns clockwise.

On your turn you:

  1. Flip the top card from your own pile into the centre.
  2. Say the next word in the sequence.
  3. End your turn immediately.

The spoken words never change:

Taco → Cat → Goat → Cheese → Pizza → Taco → Cat...

Notice that the word you say depends on the sequence—not the card you are playing.

When do you slap?

Everyone must slap the centre pile immediately if:

  • the spoken word matches the card just played
  • a special action card appears (after completing its action)

For example:

A player says "Pizza" while revealing a Pizza card.

Everyone must instantly slap the pile.

The last player to slap takes the entire pile and places it underneath their own deck. That player starts the next round.

Special cards

Three special cards interrupt the normal rhythm of the game.

Instead of immediately slapping the pile, players must first perform the correct action.

Card Action
Panda Rub your stomach
Moose Make antlers using both hands
Sea Lion Clap twice

Only after completing the action may everyone slap the pile.

Anyone who performs the wrong action—or slaps last—collects the pile.

Taco Back cards

The Taco Back Goat Cheese Pizza edition introduces an extra twist.

Whenever a reversed Flip Side card creates a match, players must slap the pile with the back of their hand instead of the palm.

If a Flip Side special card appears, players perform the special action first and then slap using the back of their hand.

Using the wrong side of your hand counts as a mistake.

Common mistakes

Several actions immediately lose the round.

You must take the pile if you:

  • slap when there wasn't a match
  • begin to slap but pull your hand back ("flinching")
  • forget whose turn it is
  • say the wrong word
  • peek at your next card before playing it

What happens when you run out of cards?

Running out of cards doesn't automatically win the game.

You must still:

  • continue saying the correct word on your turn
  • react to every match and special card
  • be the first player to slap the pile on the winning match

If another player slaps first, play simply continues until you manage to win a slap.

How do you win?

You win by:

  • getting rid of every card in your personal pile, and
  • being the first player to slap the pile when the final matching card or special card appears.

Only then is the game officially over.

Tips for beginners

The game looks easy, but your brain quickly starts confusing the spoken words with the cards.

These tips help new players:

  • Focus on the word sequence instead of the pictures.
  • Keep a steady rhythm throughout the game.
  • Watch everyone's hands as much as the cards.
  • Don't rush special card actions.
  • Never look at your next card before flipping it.
