Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game is returning in a new edition from Ghost Galaxy, with crowdfunding planned for early 2027. The publisher announced on 22 October 2026 that it has reached an agreement with Universal and Fantasy Flight Games to revive the tabletop game originally designed by Corey Konieczka.
Ghost Galaxy says an updated design is already in development. A crowdfunding page is expected in the coming weeks, although the announcement does not name a platform, a precise campaign date or a delivery window. This is confirmation of a new edition, rather than the opening of orders.
At a glance
- Ghost Galaxy is developing a new edition of the 2008 Battlestar Galactica board game under an agreement with Universal and Fantasy Flight Games.
- Crowdfunding is planned for early 2027; a preview page is expected in the coming weeks.
- Prices, delivery dates and the return of the original expansions remain unconfirmed.
A return to hidden loyalties
The original game's appeal rests on the tension between working together and wondering who is undermining the group. Its Fantasy Flight rulebook assigns players secret loyalties: human players try to complete their journey, while hidden Cylon players work against them.
Crisis cards repeatedly test the group. Players contribute skill cards face down, with some colours helping a check and others reducing its result. The cards are shuffled before being revealed, concealing who supplied each contribution. That gives a failed check more than a mechanical consequence: it can leave the table questioning whether someone deliberately sabotaged the effort.
Those are features of the original rules, not a confirmed list of mechanics for the forthcoming edition. Ghost Galaxy has described its work as an updated design without yet explaining the changes.
What is confirmed—and what is still missing
In its official announcement, Ghost Galaxy places the project with a publisher led by Christian T. Petersen, who previously founded and ran Fantasy Flight Games. Petersen also oversaw the original game's publication. The announcement includes support from Fantasy Flight's narrative-games leadership for bringing the title back into print.
The 2008 game received three expansions: Pegasus, Exodus and Daybreak. Their return has not been announced. In W. Eric Martin's reporting, updated on 22 October, Ghost Galaxy declined to provide further details when asked about them.
There are also no confirmed prices, language editions or regional shipping arrangements in the announcement. For returning players, the next useful reveal will be how the revised design and proposed contents compare with an existing collection. New players will need the campaign's rules and product details before they can judge the experience or its full cost.
