Mantic Games has launched crowdfunding for Plants vs. Zombies: The Board Game, turning the familiar garden defence into a cooperative tabletop campaign for one to four players. Its first-day update confirms the project is funded and that backers will receive two mini-expansions after the publisher expanded a pre-launch community vote’s reward.

The game itself was announced earlier. The new development is the live Kickstarter campaign, which opened on 14 October 2026, with pledge prices, edition differences and a production timetable now available to prospective backers.

At a glance

  • Mantic’s cooperative Plants vs. Zombies board game opened on Kickstarter on 14 October and reached its funding goal on day one.
  • Game pledges start at £40, including two mini-expansions; shipping costs extra.
  • Delivery is planned for September 2027. The campaign runs until 5 November.

Two mini-expansions instead of one

Before launch, Mantic asked followers which additional setting they wanted included with their pledge. The poll drew 3,008 votes, with Pool Party taking 48% and Pirate Seas 22%.

Rather than supplying only one winner, the publisher says it decided to include both. Its 14 October launch update explains that each mini-expansion adds a level, plants and zombies. Both appear in the game pledge descriptions, including the entry-level Standard option.

What the different pledges include

The £40 Standard Pledge uses cardboard tokens. At £75, the Deluxe Pledge replaces those with more than 60 pre-assembled miniatures and includes applicable unlocked stretch goals.

The £125 Deluxe + Night option adds the Night Expansion, introducing mushroom defenders, nighttime zombies and another campaign. Crazy Dave’s All-In costs £175, adding accessories such as a double-sided neoprene mat, acrylic tokens, sleeves and bags. These listed prices include VAT, with shipping charged separately through the pledge manager.

Mantic currently plans a retail release only for the standard game. It does not guarantee that the Deluxe version, Night Expansion or campaign extras will reach normal retail distribution.

How the tabletop game works

Players build plant defences together to stop zombies reaching the house. Levels introduce the rules progressively, with different lawn layouts and enemy groups. The publisher lists ages 10 and up and playing sessions of 30 minutes or more.

For readers familiar with the video game, the central change is shared decision-making around a physical table: the group must coordinate its defences rather than manage separate gardens. The campaign format then introduces further plants and challenges as play progresses.

Timing and languages

The campaign ends on 5 November 2026 at 21:00 CET. Mantic targets September 2027 for delivery, subject to production delays. English, German, French and Spanish versions are offered, selected in the pledge manager; translated editions may arrive later.
