Royal Mint launches a Cluedo mystery with a gold coin prize

Three clues across three weeks

The mystery asks players to identify a suspect, a location and a coin type. The first clue is already available; the next two are scheduled for 5 and 12 October, each at 09:00 BST. It turns the familiar pleasure of narrowing down a Cluedo solution into a challenge that unfolds over several weeks.

According to the Royal Mint’s competition page and terms, answers remain open until 18 October 2026 at 23:59 BST. Participants must answer all three clues correctly to qualify. One winner will then be selected at random for a Cluedo 2026 UK 50p Gold Proof Coin: solving the mystery earns a place in the draw, rather than guaranteeing a prize.

Entry is free and no purchase is required. The competition is restricted to UK residents aged 18 or over, with one entry per household. Players should check the full terms, including exclusions, before submitting their answers.

Familiar suspects, a different kind of collectible

The challenge accompanies the Royal Mint’s Cluedo collection, created in collaboration with Hasbro. Its 50p design features the six original suspects, including Miss Scarlett, Colonel Mustard and Professor Plum. Some editions use the colours associated with those characters.

There is a smaller detective detail in the design, too. PA’s launch report, published by AOL on 28 September, describes microtext naming characters, locations and weapons, giving collectors something to examine with a magnifying glass.

The launch also brought together two people with different connections to the game: Ellie Leach, who played Miss Scarlett in the stage production Cluedo 2, and Marcia Lewis, daughter of Cluedo creator Anthony Pratt. It is another example of the game’s characters finding a life beyond the board, this time through collectibles and a public puzzle.

What is Cluedo?

Cluedo is a deduction board game in which players investigate a murder by working out the suspect, weapon and room. A hidden set of cards contains the solution, while information gathered from the other players helps eliminate possibilities.
