A detective adventure supported by an app

According to IGN’s reporting from the event, Blade Runner 2099 will combine tabletop play with a companion app that provides narration and other features. Players will work together through a story-driven investigation, although the publisher has yet to explain how the detective work will function.

The premise puts humans on the receiving end of persecution. That gives the game a different starting point from the original film’s pursuit of replicants, but details about the setting, player characters and central mystery remain limited.

Lucky Duck Games displayed the box at Spiel Essen. A full gameplay reveal is still to come.

A separate story from the television series

Despite sharing its name with Amazon’s Blade Runner 2099 series, the board game will follow its own narrative. It has not yet been confirmed whether characters from the show will appear.

For prospective players, that leaves an important question unanswered: how closely will the two projects connect beyond their shared setting? A separate plot gives the board game room to build a mystery around players’ decisions, though branching storylines and other specific mechanics have not been announced.

Kickstarter is planned for 2027

The Kickstarter pre-launch page is already available, allowing interested players to sign up for a launch notification. The campaign is planned for 2027, but an exact date has not been announced.

That crowdfunding window should not be confused with a release date. Pricing, delivery estimates, player count and playing time are still among the details to watch for when Lucky Duck Games reveals more.

For now, the clearest picture is of a cooperative Blade Runner investigation with digital narration and an original story. The next reveal will need to show how those elements come together at the table.
