Salt Entertainment is developing a line of officially licensed Hellraiser tabletop games, with the first releases planned for Halloween 2027. The programme includes a board game from Michael Shinall, a roleplaying game from Francesco Nepitello and three smaller games built around different ways to experience the horror franchise.

The company’s 29 October announcement confirms an agreement with Clive Barker and Park Ave Ent. LLC, brokered by Surge Licensing. ICv2 reported the deal on 28 October. The release window coincides with the original 1987 film’s 40th anniversary.

At a glance

  • Salt’s Hellraiser line spans board games, a tabletop RPG, dice, escape-room-style play and social deduction.
  • Michael Shinall and Francesco Nepitello are attached to the board game and RPG respectively.
  • The first releases are planned for Halloween 2027; individual titles, prices and player counts remain unannounced.

Five approaches to Hellraiser

Salt describes a wider publishing programme rather than one game with several editions. Its initial slate contains three games intended for retail: a quick dice game about deciding how far to push your luck, an escape-room-style experience inspired by the Lament Configuration puzzle box, and a social deduction game about hidden motives and changing allegiances.

Those descriptions establish the broad formats, but do not yet explain their complete rules. Salt has not specified which title will reach shops first, or whether several will arrive together. The Halloween date should therefore be read as the planned beginning of the line, rather than a confirmed simultaneous launch for every game.

The social deduction entry is also a separate proposition from the RPG: it promises a game of mistrust at the table, while the roleplaying project is intended to support original stories within Hellraiser’s world.

Two designers lead the larger projects

Shinall will design the major board game. His previous credits include Bloodborne: The Board Game, Marvel Zombies and A Song of Ice & Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game. His involvement identifies the designer, but Salt has not announced whether the new game will use miniatures or share mechanics with those earlier projects.

Nepitello, co-designer of The One Ring Roleplaying Game and War of the Ring, will develop the tabletop RPG. Salt describes its themes as temptation, desire and consequences, without yet identifying a rules system.

What players still need to know

There are no announced prices, age recommendations, player counts or regional release schedules in the statement. Language editions and preorder arrangements are also unspecified. Salt says further product details, artwork and dates will follow during development.

For now, this is a confirmed licensing and development announcement. Players interested in a particular format will need the individual game reveals before they can assess its rules, contents or availability.
